Before the bicycle kicks, there were the bicycles.

Rosengård. Malmö.

Before Ajax, Juventus, Inter, Barcelona, AC Milan, Manchester United and the goals that made him famous, Zlatan Ibrahimović was a kid cycling across Malmö to play football.

The only problem?

The bikes weren't always his.

THE GOALSOUL INTERPRETATION

Zlatan grew up in Rosengård, a world away from some of his more comfortable teammates at Malmö FF.

They were driven to training. Zlatan arrived on a bike — sometimes stolen.

They passed. He dribbled.
They played. He fought.

Years later, the bicycle thief would become famous for something else entirely.

Bicycle kicks.

Including one of football's most outrageous — his spectacular overhead kick for Sweden against England in 2012.

From stealing bicycles.
To reinventing the bicycle kick.

THE REFERENCE

Inspired by Lars Sivertsen's “The Bicycle Thief”, published in Issue Eight of The Blizzard.

“Where his teammates lived in villas and were driven to training in Volvos, Zlatan lived in a block in Rosengård and cycled in on stolen bikes. They passed, he dribbled. They played, he fought.”

According to the story, after training one day Zlatan discovered that his stolen bicycle had itself been stolen.

So he took another one from outside the dressing room.

It belonged to Malmö's assistant manager.
