Hallam FC still play at Sandygate, recognised as the world's oldest football ground.

The clubs first met in 1860 in a fixture still played today.

In 1867, Hallam won the Youdan Cup, football's first organised tournament.

And at the centre of much of this history stands Bramall Lane — a sporting ground dating from 1855 that remains home to professional football.

These weren't isolated curiosities.

Together they helped establish the culture, rules, competitions and rivalries that became the modern game.
