Stunning long sleeved striped jerseys
Though football and
rugby share some common ancestries, both have developed and split into two very
two distinct and different pursuits. It is a commonly held assumption that the
two sports were bound by an unspoken aesthetic agreement: Rugby jerseys would
be identified with horizontal stripes, and football jerseys by contrast would
traditionally have vertical stripes.
The truth is, distinguishing team colours and patterns has been a continuously evolving and changing entity throughout history. These include plain, stripes, hoops, halves and chequers as standard alternatives.
The term ‘rugby shirt' had been used ubiquitously to describe a traditional style of sport jersey consisting of five or six horizontal stripes or 'hoops' in alternating colour bands. Yet some of the world’s most iconic football team jerseys are intrinsically linked to this traditional style, Sporting Lisbon; Glasgow Celtic; Flamengo; Queens Park Rangers and Parma AC to name a but a few.
This
style of traditional jersey has, in numerous cultures, become a popular fashion
item, and an essential part of any discerning football fan’s wardrobe.
Here’s our stunning interpretation of a historical piece of classic sport casual wear.
These vintage 'hooped' goalsoul jerseys are crafted in a medium weight woven cotton textile and features a set of horizontal stripe patterns, traditional canvas twill collar and ribbed cuffs. Further design features include a stylish split hem, goalsoul crest branding upon the chest, plus a woven outer label on the bottom/right hemline to complete.
