Casa Rebelde and goalsoul come together for Euro 88.
We love Casa Rebelde. It is the only store in Ireland (and possibly the world) that solely offers killer merchandise and apparel for the discerning football fan and revolutionary.
When Dixie, owner of this unique store, visited us at the goalsoul studio in December 2011, he asked if we’d consider designing a couple of shirts to support the Republic of Ireland's upcoming Euro campaign. 'When do we start?' we promptly answered!
Firstly, we decided to put our popular Paul McGrath ‘New York Giant’ design on a funky, and overtly Irish 'kelly green' shirt. This was an easy decision as it had more cohesion with the Irish Tricolor, and gave us a platform to develop a suite of designs across the same base colour. As for new designs, Dixie had suggested a Ray Houghton shirt paying tribute to the Republic's famous Euro 88 victory over the English in Stuttgart. We based the '1' idea around Ray’s sixth minute effort being the first Republic goal, in first Republic game, in the Republic's appearance in its first major international tournament. It also sat nicely with Jack Charlton’s quote ‘we’ve got one, now you’ve got to come and get one’.
For the third shirt in the suite, we've designed a tribute shirt to the former Republic of Ireland boss Jack Charlton, the country’s most successful football manager and honorary Irish citizen. Big Jack's Hook, is a beautiful treatment illustrating the great man’s well known passion for fishing and the great memories he left with the Republic.
When you’re next in Dublin, make it your priority to pop into Ireland's coolest shop… and say hello to owner Dixie. You will find our new and exclusive Republic of Ireland shirts as well as many others from the goalsoul collection including, Marco Van Basten, Roberto Rivelino, Socrates, Kenny Dalglish, Eric Cantona and Diego Maradona.
